The Monster's TailAdd to Cart Add to Lightbox Download
On a recent photo safari in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park we were driving along the banks of the Luangwa River when our guided spotted a slash in the river hundreds of meters down stream. We immediately investigated and looking through binoculars we could see a hippo carcass floating in the water surrounded by numerous Nile Crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus). Fortunately I had the backing of an armed park scout and this allowed me to walk across the dry river bed up to the action. I spend several hours lying on the edge of the water waiting for the perfect image. After several hours of waiting the biggest crocodile went under water and grabbed the kill only exposing his tail only with the ‘bystanders’ patiently waited for the right moment to join the feast. Camera support was a homemade beanbag.
